For All Mankind (2019) is an Apple TV show with the premise of the CCCP, not the USA, putting the first person on the moon. Of course, politics being politics, this means the space race does not end with the moon, and we get to see an alternative history take on what could have been if the space race had never ended.
Despite being a historical piece there are plenty of female and even some queer characters to cheer for! We get female pilots, the first Black woman and first American to ever set foot on Mars, we've got some incredibly butch straight women, we've got actual lesbians in space, and the answers to the questions "What if there were two guys on the moon and one of them killed the other with a rock, would that be fucked up or what?" and "What if Sally Ride had a gun?"
Quick list of faves: Molly! Molly molly molly. Sometimes the male chauvinism and pilot bravado is perpetuated by the butchest straight woman to have ever lived. Died the way she would've wanted to go. Absolutely smoking. Wayne, obviously. He's a gentle soul. I love him. Dani, badass with the most solid moral compass of the bunch. Margo holds a special little place in my heart, because we love women who live their entire adult life out of their office. Girl, were you ever even kissed before? Pam. Ellen even though she's a Republican.
